The Levelland Police Department (LPD) is actively investigating a recent spike in vehicle burglaries and thefts across the city.
The LPD urges community members to always call 911 for emergencies.
Community members are encouraged to take extra precautions such as: Lock Doors and Windows: Ensure all exterior doors and windows are locked, even when leaving for short periods.
Reinforce Doors and Windows: Consider using deadbolts, reinforced door frames, and window locks or security film.
Install Exterior Lighting: Bright, motion-activated lights can deter burglars, especially around entry points.
Use Timers: Set timers for lights, TVs, and radios to make it appear someone is home.
Secure Sliding Doors: Use a rod, dowel, or security bar in the track and consider glass break sensors.
Trim Landscaping: Keep bushes and trees trimmed to eliminate hiding places for burglars.
Consider a Security System: Alarms, cameras, and smart doorbells can deter and alert you to potential break-ins.
Hide Valuables: Keep expensive items out of sight, and consider a safe for valuables.
Don’t Advertise Vacations: Avoid posting travel plans online or leaving notes indicating you are away.
Inform Neighbors: Let trusted neighbors know when you’ll be away and ask them to keep an eye on your property.
Engrave Valuables: Engrave or mark your valuables with your driver’s license number for identification purposes.
Don’t Hide Keys Outside: Burglars know common hiding spots like under doormats or in planters.
Lock Vehicles: Even though these suspects are forcing entry, don’t make it easier.
Do Not Leave Valuables Behind: This includes firearms, electronics, or bags.
Park in well-lit areas or inside garages when possible.
