Sgt. Chapi Baeza receives promotion at council meeting

The Levelland City Council met on Monday to consider resolutions, Buy Board bids, payment and heard reports.

Prior to call the meeting to order, Levelland Police Department Chief Erica O’Bryon announced the promotion of Sergeant I’van “Chapi” Baeza, with Baeza’s father, Ismael Baeza, pinning on the new badge.

According to Chief O’Bryon, Baeza was born and raised in Levelland, graduated from LISD and graduated from the South Plains College Police Academy in 2017. She began her law enforcement career at the SPC Police Department before joining Levelland PD in 2019. O’Bryon said she is currently serving as a K-9 narcotics handler and demonstrates professionalism, dedication and a strong commitment to public service.

As the meeting was called to order, the board tabled Resolution No. 202601 to order and establish procedures for the May 5 City of Levelland Uniform General Election until the next council meeting.

The council approved the appointment of David Noles to the Mainstreet Advisory Board. He will be replacing RoxAnn Gonzales who is resigning.

In other business, the board approved a buy board bid from Musco Lightning for $113,379 for Field F lighting materials as a part of the $240,000 improvements underway at the City Park.

In other action, the council approved ratifying the City Manager James Fisher’s signature on the 2025 Clovis Horse Sale Attendance Certification. Total attendance for the event was 552 on Nov. 21 and 712 on Nov. 22. The estimated non-resident of Texas for the event was 416 for both days.

The council convened into executive session with no action taken on scheduled items.
