Sundown student bound for Washington D.C.

Lyntegar Electric Cooperative announced that two students from local high schools were selected for the Government-in-Action Youth Tour in June.

Daniel Mauldin, Sundown ISD, and Taylor Rains, Plains ISD, will travel to Washington, D. with 145 students from co-ops across Texas to explore the nation’s capital.

The Government-in-Action Youth Tour sends Texas high school students on the educational and fun trip through a nationwide program sponsored by electric cooperatives. Students who win their electric co-op’s contest earn sponsorship valued at more than $4,500 for the trip, organized by Texas Electric Cooperatives and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association.

The all-expense-paid trip to the nation’s capital includes touring national historic sites, museums, experience cultural diversity, meet U.S. congressional representatives, and learn about electric cooperatives and the energy industry. Texas’ electric cooperatives have been sponsoring students on Youth Tour since 1965, and so far, more than 4,400 Texas youths have gone on this memorable trip.
