TexPREP taking applications for summer program

Texas Tech University is offering TexPREP Levelland, a summer program designed for sixth through 11th grade students sponsored by TTU Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

The program is to help participants succeed in school college preparation course, college programs and careers in engineering, mathematics and science, as well as learning the personal and social skills needed to work cooperatively with others in school and at work.

Classes include numerous courses in math, statistics, computer science, engineering, robotics, science life skills and other activities. Included are field trips for PREP 1 and 2 to museums and businesses; and out of town trips for PREP 3 and 4 to scientific and engineering sites.

The classes are located on the TTU campus at the math building.

Requirements include having completed the sixth grade with an A average, earning a B+ average or better for seventh and eighth grade students; good teacher recommendations; willing to attend 8-2 every weekday during the program; and having computer or tablet or tablet with internet access is helpful, but not required.

There is no tuition fee.

The program will be held May 26 to July 10, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Applications are due by March 31.
