United Supermarkets to undergo changes

United Supermarkets will implement system and equipment upgrades beginning Wednesday night at its Levelland location. Upgrades will be made to the store and the gas station.

Brand new fuel pumps will be added to the station. Old ones will be removed and replaced. Along with the new pumps, a new rewards system will be implemented, allowing customers to use their phone number instead of the original 10-digit code.

Lance Gonzales, the store director at United Supermarkets, touched on how the new system will impact customers.

“You'll be able to use tap pay at the pump,” Gonzales said. “The rewards app that everyone is always frustrated with. We're getting a new one that's supposed to be three times as fast.”

Along with new gas pumps, new cash registers and self-checkout systems will be implemented for more user-friendly access. Systems used for catering and online ordering will be updated to offer more customizable options.

In-store upgrades are expected to be completed before the store opens at 6 a.m. A team of around 30 people will come in overnight to work on the store, allowing for the quick transition.

“When we open up at 6 a.m. the next morning, all of our registers will be brand new, all of our self checkouts will all be new,” Gonzales said. “Our fuel station will close down early as well on the 8th. For most locations that have transitioned so far, fuel pumps are usually running again by about noon.”

The store and its pumps will shut down at 8 p.m. to begin the reworking process. The store will close, and refueling will not be available until the new pumps are installed. After the new system is implemented, there will be a designated in-store individual available for about two weeks to answer any questions about the new system changes, rewards program and more.
