Wallace Theater to hold summer theater camp

Aspiring actors, singers, dancers, and sea creatures of all kinds will be making a splash at The Wallace Theater's Summer Theatre Camp, set to be held June 8 to June 20.

Campers will plunge into the colorful underwater world of The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition, directed by Randal Ramirez. Beneath the waves of Bikini Bottom, campers will help bring an unforgettable adventure to life as SpongeBob and friends race against the clock to save their community from a looming volcanic eruption.

Perfect for young performers, the production allows campers to develop their acting, singing, and dancing skills while exploring themes of teamwork, creativity, friendship, and believing in themselves. Packed with energetic songs and larger-than-life characters, this hilarious and heartfelt musical promises plenty of fun both on stage and behind the scenes.

The 10-day camp is June 8-12 and June 15-19, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. each day. There's still time to register for the camp, but space is limited. The camp is open to rising 6th graders and older through 18 years old. Registration for the 10-day camp is $300.

Tickets are available for three public performances on June 19 at 6 p.m.; June 20 at 2:30 p.m.; and June 20 at 6 p.m. Campers cast in lead roles must be available for all three performances.

Other summer activities being held at the Wallace include the June and July Interactive Learning: Pop-Up Museum, Mosaic Art Camp, and Creative Teaching Workshop with a lineup of learning activities for children, families and Hockley County teachers.

The City of Mosaics Art Camp will be held June 1 to June 4 for rising Kindergartners (ages 5-9) to explore the beauty of Levelland and celebrate the city’s artistic heritage. Campers will create mosaic art projects, participate in storytelling sessions, and enjoy a special guided mosaic tour. Camp cost is $125. Visit the Wallace Theater website to register.

The Creative Teaching Workshop is scheduled for June 23-24. Hockley County area schoolteachers are invited to register for the immersive and interactive workshop that provides educators with proven instructional strategies drawn from the arts. Creative Teaching bridges the gap between arts education and core subjects, helping students perform better on standardized tests. Six CPEs are available for this course.
