The Wallace Theater, after many years of renovation, will be holding its grand opening celebration on Saturday.
The grand opening will feature a Hollywood-style event complete with red carpet, a tribute to the building’s glamorous past and a preview of the future as venue for film, live music, lectures, educational programs and state productions.
“This moment is the realization of a dream,” said Alycyn Keeling, executive director of the Wallace Theater. “Together with our board, community volunteers, architects, artisans and more than a thousand donors, we’ve brought the space back as a place for connection, creativity, learning and shared experiences. I could not feel more grateful.
“I hope people walk in and feel like they’ve stepped back in time a bit, into a space that honors the past but feels modern, fresh and engaging. I want them to feel welcomed, inspired and proud. This theater belongs to them.”
Keeling said she is beyond thrilled with so many people over the past decade pouring their hearts into the Wallace Theater project ; seeing the marquee lit up again and the beautiful interior is emotional.
“It’s a full-circle moment, not just for me, but for the Hockley County and South Plains community.”
The grand opening will celebrate not just the building and its history, but the people of Hockley County, area foundations and board of directors whose unwavering support brought the dream alive.
“We have had an extraordinary group of community leaders serving on our board of directors. Their strategic vision, personal generosity and willingness to open doors for us have turned a long-held dream into reality.”
The evening will take place at the Wallace Theater, located at 823 Houston St. in Levelland. VIP check in beings at 5 p.m., followed by a private concert and reception.
