DSHS provides updated measles count across South Plains

The Texas Department of State Health Services is reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Panhandle regions of Texas.As of May 16, 718 cases have been identified since late January. Ninety-three of the patients have been hospitalized. This is an increase of 1 since the May 13 update.

Samarrae Salazar of Plainview has been named the 2025 recipient of South Plains College’s Thomas Spencer, Sr. Award for Outstanding Achievement.Salazar received the award during the Spring 2025 commencement ceremony on May 9 in the Texan Dome.

5/7/25 – 10 A.M. – LEVELLANDThe LFD received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident rollover near the 4900 block of 114. Upon arrival, fire personnel found the vehicle on its side and the patient was standing out of the window. The window and windshield was removed.

Leslie Glenn Fortner was born August 7, 1954, in Hobbs, NM, to Edith Ann and James Leslie Fortner. He attended elementary schooling in Lovington, NM, through his freshman year and graduated from Worland High School, Worland, WY, in May of 1972.
