Pet safety during hot summer months

Pets and animals can become susceptible to harm from extreme heat during the summer months as temperatures can reach triple digits.The American Red Cross has provided several tips to keep animals and pets safe while also highlighting what could put animals and pets in harms way.
FAMILY FUN- The Hockley County City Library Summer Program continues to have summer activities for children participating in the program. On Wednesday, the program had a Treasure Chest Hunt on the lawn of the Levelland Court House where the children had to go to a different tree to pick up a clue that let them know where the treasure was located. SPC Upward Bound students to host jazz concert on July 2

High school students a part of South Plains College’s Upward Bound program will perform in the jazz concert Upward Bound: Ripples of Sound from 7 to 8 p.m. on July 2 at the Tom T. Hall Production Studio in the Creative Arts Building on the Levelland campus.

SPC Natatorium remains open through July

The South Plains College Natatorium will be open until Aug. 8 (except on the July 4 holiday) for summer swimming and classes.Members can only do lap swims from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.
DISASTER RECOVERY CENTER - Community members of Hockley County are encouraged to go to the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center that has opened as of the Civic Center located at 1900 McKinley at the Levelland City Park. Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until July 12. Community members of Hockley County are continued to be reminded that a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center has opened as of June 24 at the Civic Center located at 1900 McKinley at the Levelland City Park.Hours of operation will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until July 12.

Hockley County Jail passes annual facility inspection

Following another annual inspection this month, the Hockley County Jail has continued to uphold their high standards when it comes to operating the facility.
SMYER VFD- The Smyer Voluneteer Fire Department hosted its first fundraiser on Saturday to raise money for a new station. Pictured is Benny “El Chuco” Hernandez from Lubbock that participated in the car show . He is the owner of this 1954 Chevy Bel Air. The engine is a 235 inline 6 125hp and transmission is a 3 speed powerglide. Hernandez said he has won many car shows and enjoys it. (Staff photo by Emily Campos)

FEMA approved Texas counties reaches 48

Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved seven additional Texas counties for the Federal Disaster Declaration for severe weather and flooding that began on April 26.
