Levelland City Council addresses big agenda

The City of Levelland City Council met on Monday evening for their regular meeting, a public hearing and discussions on zoning and a donated building.A public hearing was held regarding a zone change request for 838 CR 140 from a Single Family 2 District to Multi-Family 2 District.

LISD board addresses HB 2, SB 11

The Levelland Independent School District board of directors met on Wednesday to consider resolutions, purchases and hear reports.The board approved adoption of the Delay of Teacher Certification Plan for LISD.

Anton man arrested for discharging weapon, assault

A 52-year-old Anton man was arrested following reports of firing a weapon into a residence and attempting to flee.On Feb. 14, the Hockley County Sheriff ’s Office responded to a shots-fired call in Anton, where a suspect was allegedly shooting into a residence.

DHS, ICE funding expires

Funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and some of its subagencies expired this past Friday as Republicans and Democrats were still negotiating – including Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Though much of the federal government remains funded. DHS does not.

Texas Education Freedom Accounts hits record applicants

The record-setting demand for school choice in Texas hit a new milestone with more than 100,000 students having applied for Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) in less than two weeks.

SPC student pianist to perform at Carnegie Hall

As a music education and performance major at South Plains College, Jonah Sidney Campa-Peters has honed his piano skills among talented peers and mentors. His hard work at SPC will soon put him on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

The veteran owned and run business is owned by Ivan and Ramon Melendez and was established in 2016. The new location, which opened at 1501 Houston in January 2026, sells guns and accessories, does gunsmithing, maintenance, repairs and restoration. Students showcased their creativity, technique, and sense of symmetry as they applied what they’ve learned in Mrs. Tori Henderson Williams’ class.
