A report was released by the USDA containing the results from the March Agricultural Survey which was conducted during the first two weeks of March 2025.
The estimates provided in this report are intended to reflect grower intentions as of the survey period.
New acreage estimates will be made based on surveys conducted in June when crop acreages have been established or planting intentions are firm.
The USDA thanked all farmers and ranchers who responded to this survey and made these estimates possible.
Texas Upland cotton is expected at 5.50 million acres, down 8% from last year. Planting of Pima cotton is expected to total 27,000 acres, 18% below 2024.
Growers intend to plant 2.45 million acres of corn, up 14% from last year. Producers intend to plant 1.90 million acres of sorghum this year, 12% above last year.
Texas winter wheat planted, at 5.50 million acres, is unchanged from a year ago. Planted acreage for oats at 340,000 acres is down 11% from last year.
Texas rice acreage decreased 4% from last year at 142,000 acres.
Soybean growers intend to plant 110,000 acres, is up 10% from last year.
Planted acreage for peanuts is expected at 250,000 acres, up 4% from 2024.
An estimated 4.40 million acres will be harvested for dry hay this year, down 10% from last year. U.S. Highlights: United States Upland cotton producers intend to plant 9.71 million acres, down 12% from last year.
Corn acreage, at 95.3 million acres, is up 5% from 2024.
Sorghum acreage intentions, at 6.57 million acres, are up 4% from 2024.
Rice acreage is expected at 2.90 million acres, down 1% from last year.
Soybean planting intentions are 83.5 million acres, down 4% from last year.
Winter wheat planted nationally is estimated at 33.3 million acres, down slightly from the previous year.
Area to be harvested for all hay was estimated at 48.5 million, down 2% from the previous year.
