The Levelland Police Department (LPD) is raising awareness for catalytic converter theft that has been increasing across Texas.
To help community members take precautionary measures, a free catalytic converter stamping event will be held Saturday, July 19, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Quick Lane Auto and Tire Center. The event is sponsored by Quick Lane Auto, the South Plains Theft Task Force and the LPD.
Stamping is a unique identification number, often a vehicle's VIN, etched onto the catalytic converter. This deters theft by making the part traceable and less attractive to thieves looking to sell stolen converters for scrap.
The service is free and no appointment is needed. Quick Lane Auto and Tire Center is located at 502 College Avenue in Levelland.
