...Secure in my rescue...

WOMAN IN BIBLICAL GARB ADDRESSESAUDIENCE Somehow, this wasn’t what I had in mind when I accepted the proposal of a former shepherd boy. Current fugitive. Future king. I expected a palace to be my destination, after all David had been anointed by Samuel. But instead, we’ve been on the run from Saul, the wilderness our home. If you can call it a home..

Again and again, David was in peril. And again and again, God rescued him.

And then came Ziklag. By then, David had added another wife, Abigail. (REPEATS THE NAME) Abigail. What a kind woman. I didn’t consider her a competitor but a friend, more than that, a sister, someone to whisper to and cling to, when David was away. There were many women there at Ziklag, wives of David’s 600 men. There was a real sisterhood among us all, as we encouraged each other while the men were away. And we knew our ultimate protector was not our husbands, but Jehovah.

And then, while our husbands were away, the Amalekites came. They swept down like locusts and burned Ziklag to the ground, and carried all of us away.

Words cannot describe the terror in my heart as they dragged us away. Would they kill us? Would they do something worse than killing us?

Praise Jehovah, they did neither.

And so we waited. We waited for the rescue that was sure to come. For Abigail and I knew our David, and we knew our Jehovah.

David would sometimes disappoint us (WITH A SHRUG) but Jehovah never would.

And that day was no exception. David and his men rescued us!

Oh, I just realized I never introduced myself, I am Ahinoam of Jezreel, one of David’s lesser known wives. Some might dare to call me a lesser wife.

But not in Jehovah’s eyes. He rescued me. And be secure in this, He will rescue you as well.
