Garza has been crocheting since she was just a little girl but she didn’t pick it back up until she was eight months pregnant with her second child who is ten years old now. She would watch both of her grandmothers and the hobby took off.
“My mom was a single mom and she didn’t have money for daycare, so my grandmother would watch us,” said Garza. “I just saw my grandmother doing it and I just learned her technique.”
Each summer she would spend one week in San Angelo with her grandmother on her dad’s side and she would teach her as well. From there her career took off.
“I was eight months pregnant with my daughter and I just watched her as well and I started picking it up,” said Garzsa. “I was just doing little hats, scarves and simple things.”
About a year ago she picked up doing larger stuff. Last Christmas she ended up crocheting all of her family gifts.
“I ended up making my sister-in-law a hooded scarf and she was like, have you ever thought about selling them,” said Garza. “I said okay and went for it.”
She started selling them off a mom’s page on Facebook and her items took off.
“I was not expecting a lot of people ordering and I was then invited to my first event,” said Garza.
It was the Aaron’s Furniture Fourth of July event and there was no booth fee so she took her chance. Her booth did so well that she got invited to their back to school event where she was amazed by the support she was getting.
Many probably recognized her at the Cork and Keg event that was held on Saturday, October 4.
“I did not expect what I got. I kept crying and was so thankful,” said Garza.
She doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
