Levelland Fire Dept. Report

Oct. 7

-Engine 8 responded to a reported three-vehicle motor vehicle accident with minor injuries in the 1300 600 block of South College. Upon arrival, crews established scene safety and assessed all involved parties. Fire personnel provided basic medical care to individuals with minor injuries until the arrival of EMS. Vehicles were checked for hazards, and no fluid leaks or fire risks were found. Traffic control was established to ensure the safety of responders and civilians on scene. Once EMS personnel assumed patient care and law enforcement secured the scene, Engine 8 was released and returned to service without incident. Status: Scene stabilized — minor injuries treated, no further hazards found.

-Rescue 4 responded to a report of an overturned semi-trailer hauling dry bulk material in the 1400 block of FM 3261 & Zebra Rd. Upon arrival, crews found one semi on its side with the trailer contents contained and no product release or hazards present. Fire personnel established scene safety and assisted law enforcement with traffic control while recovery operations were initiated. No fire, fuel leaks, or environmental concerns were identified. Once the scene was deemed stable and turned over to law enforcement, Rescue 4 cleared and returned to service. Status: No injuries — scene secured and turned over to law enforcement.

Oct. 11

-Fire Department was paged to a call about heavy smoke at a house near the intersection of Sherman and Oak. Upon arrival, it was found that someone was burning debris in a covered container in their backyard but had also piled limbs and debris up around the barrel, which had caught fire. The fire was extinguished and the department returned to the station.

-Fire Department was paged to the 1100 block of Ave C for a report of smoke in an alley where a man was burning wood in his backyard. He was told that he was not allowed to burn the wood inside the city limits. He put the wood in an enclosed, covered fire pit. The department returned to the station.

-Fire Department was paged to the intersection of College Ave. & ; Hwy 114 for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival. An engine was positioned to block west bound traffic in the turning and outside lane. There was one injury, with no one trapped. The fire department assisted with a stretcher and loading the patient and helped with traffic as needed. The department then returned to the station.

Oct. 12

-Fire Department was called to assist in the 100 block of Bowie and advised the caller, smelled something and unrecognizable odor and wanted it checked out. Responders checked the house and attic and located a sulfur odor in a room where the HVAC was, but nothing was found that appeared to be hazardous.

Oct. 13

-Fire Department was dispatched to a vehicle fire at the intersection of Hwy 114 and College Ave. where there was an SUV smoking from the engine compartment. Advised a passer-by to use a fire extinguisher to contain the flames. Fire department personnel soaked the engine compartment to ensure there was no fire present and also disconnected the battery source. After releasing the vehicle to a towing company, all fire department personnel cleared the scene and returned to the station and back into service.

-Engine 8 was dispatched to the 100 Block of FM 3261 for a reported gas leak. Upon arrival, fire personnel established a safe perimeter and confirmed the odor of natural gas in the area. Atmos Energy was notified and were on scene immediately. Fire personnel remained on standby while Atmos crews worked to locate and repair the gas line leak. During the operation, the fire department monitored for potential ignition sources and ensured the safety of nearby structures and civilians. Once Atmos confirmed the leak was secured and deemed the scene safe, fire personnel cleared the area and returned to service. Status: Scene turned over to Atmos Energy and the fire department cleared with no further hazards found.
