In memory of Lela (Davidson) Vaugh

LELAVAUGHN

July 8, 1933 - October 7, 2025

Lela Maye (Davidson) Vaughn, lovingly known as Momma and Nanny to those who knew her best, entered her eternal rest on October 7, 2025, in Hollis, Oklahoma, at the age of 92.

Born on July 8, 1933, in Boswell, Oklahoma, to Noah Reuben and Maude Burket Davidson, Lela grew up with a heart devoted to family, faith, and service. She was the youngest of eleven children—seven brothers and three sisters—all of whom have preceded her in death. In her early years, she learned the value of prayer and perseverance—qualities that would shape her life and ministry for decades to come.

She was united in marriage to the late Rev. James M. Vaughn, her devoted husband and partner in ministry. Together, they faithfully served the Lord through the United Pentecostal Church International, pastoring several congregations over the years. Their final pastoral work was at New Life UPC, where Sister Vaughn was known for her strong faith and steadfast support for her husband. Around Levelland, she was also known for her delicious peanut brittle and for baking the best brownies and pies money could buy.

Sister Vaughn’s life was a living testimony of faith. Her steadfast prayers and devotion to God touched countless lives. Whether teaching a Bible study, praying with a friend, or simply offering a warm meal and kind word, everyone knew she lived her life devoted to her walk with God.

To her family, she was loving and fun—full of memories from times past and the greatest Skip-Bo player there ever was, no matter what time of day or night. No one ever found themselves hungry at her table. If you needed something, you could count on her to find a way to help.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James M. Vaughn; a daughter, Noah “Jan” Meeks; and a grandson, Tito Lopez Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna and husband Roger Langston of Kilgore, Texas; and her son, Rev. Tito and wife Sandra Lopez of Phoenix, Arizona. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and eight great-greatgrandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory and the faith she instilled in them.

She is now reunited in glory with her beloved husband, Rev. James Vaughn, and together they rejoice in the presence of the Lord they served so faithfully.
