The Levelland ISD Board of Education met on Oct. 16 to hear take action on reports, proposals, and bids.
The board approved the financial report for the period ending on Sept. 30 presented by Teresa Montemeyer, LISD chief financial officer. The report included statements from the general fund, community center fund, athletics fund, child nutrition fund, debt service fund and capital projects.
Montemeyer also presented bids received for two full-size 8-passenger SUVs received from Smith South Plains, Levelland Chevrolet, Sam’s Pack Chevrolet and Caldwell Chevrolet. The bid from Levelland Chevrolet for two Suburban LS at $61,278 each and a total of $122,556 was approved.
Additionally, a bid from Martinez Handyman Service was approved for Eif repairs to include the removal of trees and shrubs and repair the re-coat to match the existing wall at LABC and Levelland Middle School. The bid for ABC was $131,200; and the bid for LMS was $148,500.
Administration requested replacement technology for the staff at South and Capitol elementary schools. A quote from Dell Technologies was submitted and approved for $85,642. Technology included in the quote was for 60 Dell Pro 14 Plus PB 1425G, 60 Dell EcoLoop Pro Backpacks, 60 Dell Active Pro Pens, 60 Dell Pro 27 Plus USB-60 Hug Monitors, eight Del Pro 24 All-in-One, and 60 Dell Wired Keyboards with wireless mouse.
In other action, the board approved an expenditure of $300,000 for the Learning Acceleration Support Opportunities (LASO) grant to be provided by the Education Service Senter 17 (ESC) for the 2025-2026 calendar year.
The board approved the annual partnership between the LISD and Head Start as required by the South Plains Community Action Association (SPCAA). SPCAA is a funding source for prekindergarten programs at Levelland ABC for the 2026-2027 school year.
An updated interlocal agreement was approved for school resources office services between the city of Levelland and LISD. The agreement provides for up to five law enforcement officers who will be designate school resource officers.
Dr. Donald Heseman, superintendent, reported on the class size ratio, which is required by the LISD District of Innovation Plan that includes an exception for class sizes and student to teach rations. State law requires districts to maintain an average student to teacher ratio at most of 22 to 1 for average daily attendance in K-4th grade. For the 20252026 school year, Capito Elementary second grade has one homeroom class at 23 to 1 and another at 24 to 1. The third grade has one homeroom class at 24 to 1, two at 25 to 1; and one at 26 to 1. The fourth grade has two homeroom classes at 25 to 1; and two homeroom classes at 24 to 1. The board approved the waiver.
A Special Program Evaluation Report was presented to trustees. Elementary pre- kindergarten through 4th grade has 52 gifted and talented student, 488 at-risk, and 111 bilingual/ English as second language students. The secondary 5th through 12th grade has 105 gifted and talented; 1,036 atrisk; and 134 emergent bilingual/English as second language students. In career and technology education (CTE), of 798 LHS students, 768 participated in CTE courses. There were 277 CTE student industry-based certifications.
Dr. Heseman reported hiring Jana Avery at LMS as a part-time instructional coach (LASO grant), as well as auxiliary hires that include David McGure, BEST aide at Capitol, Marie Quintana, ECSE at LABC, Kristen Williamson, inclusion aide at LMS, Andrea Mongorte, inclusion aide at LMS, Jesus Adame, mechanic in transportation, and Francis Rodriguez, bus aide, transportation. Samantha Frey resigned as a BEST aide at LMS.
Dr. Heseman also report on student raising activity for the past month. Approval was made for the following: -LABC students to sell chocolate bars from Oct. 9 to Oct. 30 with the proceeds helping the Parents Club provide shade for the staff and students during recess; -Capitol students and staff to sell scented pencils for the rest of the year for student and staff activities; -Capitol students and staff for a Costume Change Contest where students donate change in exchange for a vote with proceeds going to student and staff activities; -LHS Choir to host dinner and show on Dec. 16 with proceeds going toward Annual Choir Spring Trip; -LHS Choir selling World’s Finest Chocolate Bars from November to January with proceeds going toward Annual Choir Spring Trip; and -LHS FFA students selling Fresh Country fruit, meat and smoked meat from Sept. 25 to Oct.17 for FFA activities.
