Levelland Fire Dept. Report

Oct. 30

Fire Department responded to call in reference to a brush fire near the 2600 block of Robert Lee. Units Brush 14 and Tanker 9 responded to location Units brush 14 and tanker 9 responded to location with fire crews extinguishing fire and remaining hot spots to ensure no re- kindling. Property owner advised he would remain on location and monitor. Units cleared the scene.

Fire Department Units Tanker 3 and Brush 12 responded to the 2900 Block of FM 2646,in reference to a barn fire. Levelland Fire Dept. requested for Smyer and Anton VFD to respond.

Dispatch advised that Smyer would respond. While en route, LFD 603 notified station via phone there was no fired and fired departments were not needed. LFD 603 canceled response LFD units returned to station.

Oct. 31

Fire Department received call in reference to smoke alarm/smoke detector activation in the 100 block of Bowie. Upon arrival, fire crew made contact with occupant of residence and determined there was a malfunction with the alarm system and no fire or smoke was detected. Occupant was assisted with resetting the system. Fire crew determined there was a malfunction with the alarm system and no fire or smoke detected. Fire crew assisted occupant with resetting system.

Fire Department units were dispatched to a dumpster fire in the alley of 11th and Ave K, Unit 233 pulled booster line for fire suppression and fire was extinguished and wooden fence soaked down for hot spots. Units were cleared from scene.

Fire Department Unit Brush 14 was dispatched and arrived at Sunrise and Hwy 385 for a cotton bale fire burning in the field. Fire was put out with the front bumper nozzle and deck gun on Brush 14. Units were released from the scene.

Fire Department units were dispatched to a residential fire alarm in a garage in the 300 block of Dogwood, Units were dispatched to a residential fire alarm in the garage. Units arrived on scene to find nothing visible. Owner advised that she had tried to contact alarm company to report it was a false alarm. Units cleared from the scene.

Fire Department was dispatched to an outside contained fire at Cactus and Elgin, Upon investigation and finding it contained, units cleared from scene.

Fire Department units were dispatched to a car vs. bicycle accident in the 1400 block of Hwy 114. Engine 8 arrived on scene to a bicycle in the turning lane and diverted eastbound traffic. R4 arrived on scene and diverted westbound traffic. Personnel controlled traffic until roadway was clear. E8 diverted traffic eastbound into lane 1 eastbound. R4 arrived on scene and diverted westbound traffic into lane 1 westbound. Personnel controlled traffic until roadway was clear. Units were released from the scene.

Nov. 1

Fire Department responded to a grass fire in a field at the 2800 block of HWY 385. Units arrived to find cotton burrs smoking. Fire was extinguished and units cleared the scene.

Fire Department received call respording a residential fire alarm in the 100 block of Fannin. Engine 8 started en route and was adviced by 911 dispatch to cancel due to false alarm.

Nov. 3

Fire Department Engine 8 responded to a reported bomb scare in the 900 Block of Ave C. Upon arrival, fire personnel established a safe staging area and remained on standby while law enforcement conducted their investigation. No fire or hazardous conditions were observed. Once the scene was deemed safe and all clear was given by the Levelland Police Department, Engine 8 was released from standby and returned to service without incident.

Nov. 4

Fire Department Units B14, T-9, and S-11 were dispatched to a reported cotton fire at FM 2646 and Alaska. Upon arrival, fire crews observed a small fire involving a pile of cotton. Fire service personnel quickly deployed master streams lines and extinguished the fire, preventing any further spread. The area was thoroughly checked for hotspots and deemed safe. Fire was small in nature and quickly extinguished by fire service personnel. All units returned to service without incident.

Fire Department was paged to the 4900 block of Iowa Rd in regards to a grass fire on the side of the road. Upon arrival in the area, a small burned patch of grass was located, but there was no active fire. Area was soaked thoroughly and units returned to station.
