Levelland Fire Dept. Report

Nov. 4

Fire Department responded to the 4900 block of Iowa regarding a grass fire on the side of the road. Firefighters located a burned patch of grass and soaked the area and returned to the station.

Nov. 5

Fire Department responded to the intersection ofAlaska and Barton Lane for reports of smoke in a field. Upon arrival , a small pile of cotton was found to be smoking and was located and isolated in the middle of the plowed, open field. Responders returned to the station.

Fire Department Engine 8 responded to the 200 block of College Ave. for a request to assist with resetting elevator after fire button was activated Upon arrival, fire crew made contact with motel staff and assisted with resetting elevator. No fire and no danger to customers, staff, or public. Crew returned to station.

Fire Department Engine 8 and Rescue 4 responded to the 200 block of Clubview after receiving a call to assist with removing a construction worker having a seizure on top of a building. Levelland EMS was also dispatched. The rescue crew arrived to find construction workers in the process of bringing the victim down on a construction forklift No rescue equipment was needed during the incident, and the victim was moved to the ambulance. Fire personnel cleared the scene and returned to the station.

Nov. 6

Fire Department responded to the 1400 Block of Cactus for complaints of a gas smell at a residence. Upon arrival there were no gas levels detected. Personnel made contact with the homeowner and ran the trigas monitor through and around the residence and advised homeowner of findings. Once residence was clear, fire department personnel returned to station.

Nov. 7

Fire Department was called to the 3000 block of FM 2646 in regards to a report of a cotton module on fire. 602 advised there was a module in the area that the farmer was letting burn. Upon arrival, the module in question was burning per the farmer’s wishes and fire personnel returned to station.

Fire Department Engine 8 was dispatched to the 1500 block of Ave T to a residence with smoke coming from under a single-story house at 1506Ave. T. Units arrived on scene to find no visible smoke and fire personnel forced door to investigate interior of fire. No visible heat or smoke was detected using the thermal. Units found a small, burned spot on the wall between the decking and the wall, but no heat or fire inside the wall. Units were cleared and returned to station.

Nov. 8

Fire Department was dispatched to the100 block of Badger for a small grass fire near a residence. On scene, the fire crew found the homeowner burning in a homemade pit. The homeowner was advised that open burning inside the city limits was illegal and told to extinguish the fire. Once fire was extinguished, fire department personnel cleared the scene and returned to station.

Nov. 9

Fire Department personnel observed and heard at twovehicle crash at the 400 block of Hwy. in front of Walmart. Fire personnel immediately took action by assessing the scene and ensuring that all occupants involved were safe and free of injuries. Firefighters then established scene safety by closing lanes of traffic and directing vehicles around the accident site.

Levelland Police Department and EMS were requested to respond to the scene for traffic control and further evaluation. After confirming that there were no injuries, fire personnel remained on scene until the wrecker arrived and removed the damaged vehicle. Once the roadway was cleared and deemed safe for normal traffic flow, the scene was turned over to LPD and considered cleared.

Nov. 10

Fire Department was dispatched to Hawk and Foster Road for a controlled burn that got out of hand but was cancelled enroute.

Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm at the 200 block of West.After making contact with the business, it was confirmed it was a false alarm. Dispatch cancelled all units.

Nov. 11

Fire Department was dispatched to the 600 block of Cactus for a detector going off in a residence. After running a tri-gas monitor, elevated levels of carbon monoxide were detected. Atmos and EMS were requested to the location.ATMOS investigated and conducted a pressure test in which the home passed. Advised homeowner of findings and all units cleared the scene and returned to station.
