Hord appointed District Judge

Former Hockley County attorney Anna Hord was sworn by County Judge Sharla Baldridge this past Tuesday to become the judge for the 286th Judicial District Court in Cochran and Hockley counties.

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Hord to fill the unexpired term of retiring Judge Pat Phelan, which will commence immediately with her service projected to continue until either Dec. 31, 2026, or when a successor is elected and steps in, according to a statement by the governor’s office.

The selection of Hord as a judicial appointee by Gov. Abbott underscores an ongoing approach to staff Texas courts with individuals who exhibit a dedication not just to the legal profession, but to the broader public welfare through extensive community service and her career achievements and her volunteer work paint a picture of an individual who understands both the letter of the law and the spirit of community that must, invariably accompanies it.

Prior to her appointment, Hord’s record reflects a career blended with both legal distinction and community involvement; she is a practicing member of the State Bar of Texas and has been significantly involved in her local community, where she has lived as the secretary of the Salvation Army Levelland Service Unit, and volunteers with not only the Sundown Athletic Booster Club but also the Sundown District Wide Planning Committee, alongside contributing to the First Baptist Church Levelland.

Hord is a member of the State Bar of Texas. She received an Associate of Arts from South Plains College, a Bachelor of Arts in History from Texas Tech University (TTU), and a Juris Doctor from TTU School of Law.
