Lady Lopes dominate Tornadoes, 62-23, win ninth straight

The Whiteface Lady Lopes basketball team squared off against the West Texas Tornadoes this past Tuesday night at home, winning 62-23.

The win improves the Lady Lopes to 13-2 on the season and marks their ninth win in a row, and the crazy part is they’ve been playing through adverse circumstances as of late.

“We’re currently playing without our starting post, senior Abi Soliz,” Lady Lopes Head Coach Jason Blankenship said. “We have two freshmen playing that are learning and growing in confidence. Overall, it was a good outing for us.”

Blankenship did also note that they expect Soliz back over the weekend potentially, but in her absence her teammates have stepped up, which showed in the score sheet against West Texas.

Sophomore guard Kambry Sanders led the Lady Lopes with 26 points, going a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line and hitting two three pointers.

Senior guard Emily Blankenship was also in double figures on the night with 14 points, powered by three three-pointers made.

Other scorers included junior guard Lainey Sanders and freshman forward Gracyn Kauffman, both with eight points, and freshman post Keyarah Castaneda with six points.

Following the win, the Lady Lopes will be back in action over the weekend against Hale Center before kicking off district play at home against the Morton Maidens on Tuesday at 6:15 p.m.
