Fire Department Report

Jan. 8

Fire Department dispatched to the 2000 block of Hwy 114 regarding a gas leak. Upon arrival, Atmos was on scene and advised someone ran over the meter. Fire crew plugged the pipe and Atmos stated a crew was arriving to crimp the pipe. The scene was released to Atmos and unit returned to station.

Fire Department B-14 dispatched to the 300 block of Hicks Place regarding a gas leak. Crew conducted a scene assessment and confirmed an active gas leak. The area was secured and appropriate safety measures were implemented to protect personnel and the public. Crew located the source and plugged the compromised line. Atmospheric monitoring was conducted and conditions were stabilized. Once secured, scene was turned over to Atmos for further evaluation and permanent repairs. Unit returned to station.

Fire Department dispatched to the 200 block of 2nd St. in Whitharral regarding a gas leak and possible carbon monoxide exposure. Upon arrival, crews made immediate contact with school staff, who advised of unusual odors and concerns regarding air quality, specifically in the auditorium. Crew initiated atmospheric monitoring using multi-gas detection equipment which showed elevated levels of carbon monoxide and a measurable Lower Explosive Limit (LEL), confirming a potentially hazardous environment. All occupants were evacuated from the affected area of the school. Fire crew secured and shut down the furnace and HVAC units and the area was isolated and restricted to emergency personnel. Continuous atmospheric monitoring was conducted to track gas levels. Fire crew remained on scene until Atmos Energy arrived and briefed on initial findings, meter readings and areas of concern. Atmos conducted further testing and investigation while the fire crew continued monitoring the situation. Once Atmos assumed control of situation, units cleared the scene and returned to station.

Fire Department dispatched to the intersection of Leon Road and Ellis St. in Lubbock regarding a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, crew assisted with getting the patient out of the vehicle, over a fence and loaded into ambulance. Crews assisted the wrecker with getting the vehicle out of the field and loaded up, after which all fire units cleared the scene leaving state troopers in command. Units returned to station.

Jan. 10

Fire Department E-8 dispatched to the 800 block of North Hwy 385 regarding a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Levelland WMS and Levelland Police Department were also enroute. Upon arrival, crew observed two vehicles with moderate damage. EMS advised that no forcible extrication was needed. Fire crew assisted EMS with non-patient tasks, and once patient was moved, assisted with traffic control. After vehicles were removed from roadway, crew was cleared from scene. Unit returned to station.

Fire Department E-8 and T-3 dispatched to the 1200 block of Ave J regarding a fire alarm and smoke detector activation. Upon arrival, fire crew made contact with homeowner who stated he was changing the batteries in the detector, and it accidentally set off. Units the cleared scene and returned to station.

Jan. 11

Fire Department B-14 dispatched to Bear Rd and Mallard Road in Smyer. While enroute, crew was advised incident had been canceled. Unit returned to station.

Jan. 12

Fire Department dispatched to the 1800 block of 9th Street regarding a report of illegal burning in the city limits. Upon arrival, crews found the occupant to be burning copper. Crew extinguished the fire and advised occupant it was illegal to burn within the city limits. Scene was cleared and unit returned to station.

Fire Department dispatched to the 2500 block of Hwy 114 regarding a multi-vehicle accident. Upon arrival, drew found two vehicles sitting in median, one with minor damage and the other with significant damage to the rear. Crew assessed one driver while waiting for EMS top arrive. Crew remained on scene for traffic control and the wrecker to load vehicle. Once scene was cleared, units returned to station.

Fire Department dispatched to Kewanee and Ave I regarding someone burning in the backyard. Upon arrival, crew found a small fire in a barrel. Crew extinguished the fire and advised the homeowner that burning inside of the city limits is illegal.

Fire Department dispatched to the 100 block of Alamo Road regarding a gas leak on America Road. Upon arrival, crew found there was gas spraying at ground level. Upon arrival, Atmos Energy was on scene. Fire crew provided a standby watch as Atmos representatives fixed the issue. Once scene was clear, units returned to station.

Jan. 13

Fire Department dispatched to Quail Rd and FM 1585 in Ropesville regarding a single vehicle rollover. Once on scene, patients had already been extricated from the vehicle by Wolfforth Fire Department. Units remained on scene to assist with traffic control. Once the scene was cleared by DPS, units returned to station. Smyer Fire Department remained in command.
