Celebration of life set for Sherry (Gibson) Hatchett

Sherry Layne (Gibson) Hatchett, affectionally known as ‘Mimi’ by her grandchildren, 72, has gone to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Jan. 29, 2026. Sherry was born on Dec. 1, 1953, in Kermit, Texas.

Sherry married Jim Hatchett on June 1, 1973, and had 52 years of marriage. Sherry and Jim moved to Levelland in 1987 after living and working in Lubbock all their prior years. Sherry went to Monterey High School, had a BS degree from Texas Tech and a Master’s degree in Economics from Wayland Baptist University. Sherry worked at Texas Instruments for many years until the plant closed in Lubbock. Then, she taught economics at South Plains College in Levelland for a while. In recent years, Sherry had a passion for the Levelland Animal Shelter. She handcrafted many blankets and mugs for fundraising, and all proceeds went for the good of the shelter. Sherry also enjoyed scrapbooking. Meeting friends for lunch and coffee were social activities that Sherry loved.

Sherry leaves behind her husband, Jim Hatchett of 52 years; two daughters, Christina Crews and her husband C.W. of Littlefield, Texas, Lisa-Marie Scott and her husband Jimmy of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Chandler Wortham, Charles Wortham, James Scott, and Kaitlyn Scott; her brother, Jonathan Stout and his wife Jean of Missouri; and numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family members. Sherry was preceded in death by her twin brother, Jerry Gibson and her brother Gwen Tanner. Sherry was also preceded in death by her sister, Linda Preston, who passed away just hours after her.

Celebration of life services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at the First Presbyterian Church in Littlefield, Texas with Steve Chambers officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations be made to the Levelland Animal Shelter at 109 Commerce Drive in Levelland, Texas 79336.

Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield, Texas.
