Bounasri, Sakar break school record at Jarvis Scott Invite

The South Plains College track program competed at the Jarvis Scott Invite, an indoor track and field meet, at Texas Tech University this past Friday and Saturday.

SPC continued their trend of dominance, posting many top 10 results, not only in the meet, but also the NJCAA.

In the Men’s 1,000-meters, Yassine Bounasri placed first out of 23 competitors with a time of 2:22.34 and Tamer Sakar placed second with a time of 2:22.44. Both Bounasri and Sakar broke the former SPC school record in the event of 2:22.47. In the NJCAA, Bounasri’s time ranks first and Sakar’s time ranks third.

The Men’s Distance Medley relay of Ylies Mihoubi, Ismael Risser, Yassine Bounasri and Dennis Cheruiyot ran a time of 9:54.61 in the 4,000-meter race, which puts them second in the NJCAA.

In the Women’s 600-yards, Nour Rahou placed second out of 28 competitors with a time of 1:21.46, Morgane Lenoir placed fourth with a time of 1:22.64 and Cheffonia Houston placed 11th with a time of 1:24.96. Rahou’s time ranks first in the NJCAA, Lenoir’s ranks third and Houston’s ranks eighth.

In the Men’s Pole Vault, Jules Courel placed fourth out of 13 competitors with a vault of 5.34 meters (17’ 6 ¼”), which puts him first in the NJCAA.

In the Women’s 800-meters, Nour Rahou placed eighth out of 50 competitors with a time of 2:13.61 and Morgane Lenoir placed 15th with a time of 2:15.81. In the NJCAA, Rahou’s time ranks fourth and Lenoir’s time ranks eighth.

In the Men’s 400-meters, Carlton Siwela placed eighth out of 117 competitors with a time of 46.68, which ranks seventh in the NJCAA.

In the Men’s 200-meters, Elijah Joseph placed 13th out of 131 competitors with a time of 21.09, which ranks eighth in the NJCAA.

In the Men’s Triple Jump, Adem Boualbani placed 11th out of 28 competitors with a jump of 14.69 meters (48’ 2 ½”), which ranks 10th in the NJCAA.

In the Men’s 600-yards, Joshem Sylvester placed third out of 23 competitors with a time of 1:10.37 and Zion Miller placed seventh with a time of 1:10.83. Miller’s time moves him to 16th in the NJCAA, while Sylvester is already sixth from a faster time earlier this season.

In the Men’s 3,000-meters, Dennis Cheruiyot placed first out of 31 competitors with a time of 8:25.18, Ylies Mihoubi placed eighth with a time of 8:36.23 and Abdirisak Saidgurhan placed ninth with a time of 8:36.46.

In the Men’s 5,000-meters, Dennis Cheruiyot placed second out of nine competitors with a time of 14:39.42.

And finally in the Women’s 1,000-meters, Jennifer Lozano placed fourth out of 10 competitors with a time of 3:05.48.

Following yet another prosperous meet, the SPC track program is set to host the SPC West Texas Shootout meet this Saturday at their track complex on their Levelland campus. Field events are scheduled to start at 12 p.m. and track events are scheduled to start at 1 p.m., times may change as the official schedule is still unreleased.
