The Ropes Lady Eagles softball team traveled on the road to face the Sudan Lady Nettes this past Tuesday, resulting in the Lady Eagles winning 25-21 across seven innings.
The high-scoring affair saw 43 total hits and only one scoreless frame for each team. The Lady Eagles would win the hits column 23-20 and walks column 109, and the teams would tie at two errors a piece.
The biggest contributor of all to the Lady Eagles offensive effort was Braedyn Reyna, who put together a historic performance, going 4/5 with four home runs, nine RBI’s, five runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
“Anytime you hit four home runs, it’s special,” Ropes Head Softball Coach Joey Ybarra said. “Reyna had an outstanding day at the plate and stepped up in a big way for our team.”
Her teammates certainly completed her with great atbats as well, as first baseman Allye Bandy went 2/5 with three RBI’s, two doubles, two stolen bases and two runs scored, and catcher Ezmeralda Saenz went 4/5 with two RBI’s, a walk, stolen base and a run scored.
Other standouts at the plate included third baseman Marlee Molina going 3/4 with five runs scored, four stolen bases, two walks, two doubles and a triple, second baseman Sydney Brooks going 4/6 with three RBI’s, two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base, and center fielder Karli Rhoads going 3/5 with three stolen bases, two RBI’s and a run scored.
Reyna would handle all the pitching duties, tossing all seven innings and striking out two batters.
“We swung the bats well throughout and consistently responded to their runs to stay ahead,” Coach Ybarra said. “I’m extremely proud of how we competed from start to finish and the way we closed out the game.”
The win improves the Lady Eagles to 11-8 overall this season. They’ll be back in action over the weekend at Crosbyton before heading to play at Kress on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
