The Centennial committee met on Tuesday evening to begin putting the finishing touches to the Levelland 100-year event that will be held on April 11. Volunteer registration is underway for Hockley County 4-H and Girls Scouts and Spartan Shuttles have been secured and are awaiting the final plan.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. starting in Citizen’s Bank parking lot and travel east, ending at First Baptist Church. The parade marshal will be Lloyd Parker, World War II veteran with Smith Auto providing the vehicle.
More activities at the Downtown Square include entertainment and music beginning at the courthouse gazebo following the parade. Brent Wheeler has signed several performers including Riley Evyn, Jerry Serrano Latin and Highway 114 featuring Lonnie Jo. Dancers for the event have also been secured.
The Community Cookout begins at 11:30 a.m. with five cookers preparing hamburgers, chips and drinks.
There will also be a community showcase and history integration at Studebaker Events.
Centennial activities will move to Oxy Sports Complex at 6 p.m. The public is invited to bring blankets or chairs to the soccer field and eat a picnic and enjoy music and yard games. Faith BBQ, Hamburgerso, Sugar Rush, Slim Chickens and Lone Star Dough Mac food trucks will also be on site.
The event is booked to capacity with 20 non-food vendors.
Fireworks by Renegade Wireline will begin at 8:45 p.m.
