Levelland's water and wastewater systems are set to be updated under the city’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Master Plan. SCADA, along with Freese and Nichols, will create roadmaps to secure and modernize infrastructure to better support storm management, enhance system reliability, cybersecurity and data usability.
The goal for SCADA is to use these technical roadmaps to help monitor, secure, and upgrade Levelland's water infrastructure over time. This includes monitoring tank levels, pressure, flow, and water quality. Control pumps and treatments will be processed remotely, and alarms for leaks, failures, and other potential incidents will be received.
Over time, the Master Plan's monitoring system is set to reduce water losses. Tank level automation will prevent overflows and shortages, and pump optimization will help save energy and extend equipment life. Alarm standardization will lead to faster response to failures.
Freese and Nichols will assess inventory in all existing water assets. New maps will show how data flows between them, helping identify poor workflows at sites that are not automated or poorly monitored.
Multiple high-priority coordinate sites will be visited, including one water tower site, a booster pump station, a well site, one lift station, the master radio location, and the SCADA control and server rooms.
SCADA will provide regular updates on its progress and will supply progress reports on completed work. Communication, updates, and project tracking will be enforced to ensure project plans stay on schedule, remain within budget, and align with city expectations.
Stakeholders involved with the project will be interviewed to understand current workflows and weak points. With the stakeholder interviews in place, SCADA will then summarize findings and assess its strengths.
To ensure long-term support, Freese and Nichols will research hardware and software platforms that can be maintained by multiple local integrators and vendors.
A new wastewater treatment plant is currently under construction. SCADA will use this to design a modern, secure system aligned with Levelland’s long-term operational goals. The completed design will focus on its architecture and allow for the preparation of design documentation suitable for implementation.
The package will include guidelines, schematics, and criteria for maintaining design implementations approved by the city.
The completed design package for the wastewater treatment plant includes architecture, hardware specifications, and integration documentation. This allows the city to implement a standardized, modern system for longterm support and strategy.
A final presentation concluding the Master Plan will include all findings and recommendations in a document for the city, and will serve as a roadmap for system improvements and operational needs. The city will be able to provide feedback, ask questions, and finalize the section projects with the help of stakeholders.
