The commissioner’s court in Levelland approved the renewal for the TAC Risk Management Pool on Mar. 30. The TAC provides coverage for all city buildings, vehicles, equipment as well as liability insurance for city employees and elected officials. According to the Texas Association of Counties, its Risk Management Pool provides coverage and services to more than 400 counties across the state. The program includes protection for property, liability, workers’ compensation, vehicles, and cybersecurity, while also offering training and safety resources to help counties reduce incidents and manage costs.
Rather than relying solely on traditional insurance, counties in the pool share risk and receive support, including training, consulting, and risk-control programs, aimed at improving day-to-day operations and workplace safety, as reported by the Texas Association of Counties.
At the local level, the City of Levelland manages its own risk system through the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool, which covers city buildings, vehicles, equipment, and employees according to Levelland’s Risk Management.
Risk management also reports that the city handles claims from residents who report property damage or injury. Those claims are reviewed and investigated by an adjuster, who determines whether the city is liable and what action should be taken. Officials say these systems are designed to manage risks associated with daily operations while also providing a structured process for handling incidents.
Events tied to risk management programs give employees a chance to learn how coverage works and what resources are available to them.
If any person has a claim, they can submit it to Levelland’s risk management system. Proper documentation will be required as shown on its website, and claims submitted aren't guaranteed for coverage.
The goal is to limit losses, support employees, and keep services running without disruption.
