Ropes softball run-rules Petersburg, 20-4

The Ropes Lady Eagles defeated Petersburg on the road in one of their largest victories of the season on this past Saturday, with a final score of 20-4 The first inning began with Ropes securing an early two-run lead. Petersburg closed the inning with zero runs, ending the inning 2-0.

The Lady Eagles increased their lead, adding five runs to their score in the second inning. Petersburg couldn’t close the gap, leaving Ropes with a 7-0 lead.

Petersburg began to show light in the third inning, adding one run to their total. Ropes’ run regime in the first two innings slowed with zero runs to their total in the third. The Lady Eagles still held the lead 7-1.

The fourth inning backed off the third with Petersburg scoring two runs and Ropes running zero. The new score at the end of the fourth was 7-3, with Ropes still holding a strong lead despite slowing down.

Ropes picked themselves back up in the fifth inning, batting in three runs compared to Petersburg’s one run in the fifth, increasing the Lady Eagles’ lead by six, closing the inning 10-4.

In the sixth inning, Ropes doubled their score with 10 runs in the final inning, ending the game by run rule with a final score of 20-4.

Nine different Lady Eagles batted in runs, with third baseman Allye Bandy finishing her day with five hits at bat and four RBIs, shortstop Braeden Reyna had four hits at bat and three RBIs, and Catcher Camden Dodd with three runs and two hits at bat. Third baseman Ezmeralda Saenz had three RBIs and two runs, right fielder Karli Rhoads had two hits at bat and three runs, and second baseman Kambry Turner had three hits, two runs, and two RBIs.

Pitcher Marlee Molina finished her day with 11 strikeouts, two earned runs, and two walks. Molina also had three hits at bat, two RBIs and one run on offense. The team walked three times onto base.

Lady Eagles head softball coach Joey Ybarra believes the team’s dominance and strong pitching were the reasons for their high-scoring game.

“We saw the ball and saw ways to score throughout the game,” Ybarra said. “Our pitcher was outstanding, showing great command and finishing with 11 strikeouts. I’m proud of how we came out and competed in every phase of the game.” 

The Lady Eagles’ win improved them to 14-12. Ropes will be back early in the week at Lubbock Christian, and then next Tuesday versus the Lubbock Titans in Brownfield at 5 p.m.
