Lady Eagles close inaugural season strong

The Ropes Lady Eagles faced off against the Lubbock Lady Titans in their final game of their inaugural softball season this past Tuesday night in Brownfield, resulting in the Lady Eagles earning a 15-1 run rule win in four innings.

The Lady Eagles scored five runs in the top of the first inning, and the Lady Titans scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, which would account for their lone run. The Lady Eagles would add five runs in the second inning and five runs in the fourth inning to ultimately secure the win.

In the team statistics, Ropes won the hits column 5-1, the walks column 13-3 and the errors committed column 0-3.

Ropes’ standouts at the plate included first baseman Allye Bandy going ½ with three runs-batted-in, two runs scored, a home run and a stolen base, third baseman Ezmeralda Saenz going 2/2 with three runs scored, an RBI, a double and a walk, Braedyn Reyna going 1/1 with two RBIs, a run scored and a home run, left fielder Sierra Anderson with two RBIs and two walks, second baseman Kambry Turner with an RBI and a walk, and Dacey Feldman with three walks and an RBI.

Reyna got the start on the mound for the Lady Eagles, pitching one inning and surrendering one earned run on no hits and three walks while striking out two batters. Laila Mireles would enter in relief and record an out, followed by Marlee Molina, who pitched two scoreless innings while striking out six batters. Jocelyn Rivera would close the game, recording two outs while striking out a batter.

The win concludes the Lady Eagles first full soft ball season at 14-10 overall, which Ropes Head Softball Coach Joey Ybarra reflected on.

“It was a great way to close out the season. I’m proud of how our girls competed and grew this year,” Coach Ybarra said. “Finishing 1410 against a tough schedule and being in so many close games shows the progress we made. This group laid a strong foundation, and we’re excited about the future of our program.”

After mandatorily playing their inaugural season outside of a district, the Lady Eagles will be joining 2A District 4 next season. Their district will include New Home, Plains, Post, Seagraves, Sundown, Crosbyton, Tahoka and O’Donnell.
