Floyd Oscar Taylor, 90, of Whiteface, Texas, went home on May 13, 2026. Born on November 4, 1935, in Post, Texas, Floyd lived a life deeply rooted in family, faith, and community.
His early years were spent working alongside his father, LL 'Book' Taylor, on the family farm, helping Uncle Wood and with his brother Wade drilling oil wells or working at the gas station. He later worked for Texaco in Sundown, Texas, before returning to Cochran County to farm. Eventually, Floyd founded Floyd Taylor Trucking Company, where he hauled and brokered flatbed freight for the oil industry until his retirement.
Floyd's dedication to his community was evident through his service on the Cochran County Livestock Board, Cochran County Appraisal District, a supporter of Little League Baseball as both a coach and organizer of annual barbecues, trustee to reorganize the Whiteface Cemetery Association and organizing Whiteface Homecoming Parades.
His commitment to education was reflected in his service on the Whiteface CISD School Board during the 1970s and again in the 2000s. A proud graduate of Whiteface High School and a lifelong supporter of the Whiteface Antelopes, Floyd carried his love for his alma mater throughout life and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Floyd met Mary LuDean Wright of Sundown, Texas, and they married on June 15, 1955. Together they shared 65 wonderful years of marriage until LuDean’s passing in December 2020. Their bond was one of enduring love and devotion. Floyd missed her deeply after her passing but found solace in their shared faith.
Faith played a central role in Floyd’s life. He and LuDean were members of First Christian Church in Levelland, where he committed himself to Christ and sought to live a Christian life every day. In later years, he continued his spiritual journey at Fairview Baptist Church in Fairview, Texas.
Floyd is survived by three children: Terry Taylor and wife Sue of Smyer, Texas; Traci Taylor Baker and husband David of Amarillo, Texas; Vonda Taylor Macsay and husband Paul of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren who lovingly called him Pawpaw. He adored them all deeply.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary LuDean Taylor; parents LL 'Book' Taylor and Janie Lucille 'Mur' Taylor; brother Wade Taylor; and sisters Helen Walker and Billie Faye Minyard.
Floyd’s legacy is one of love for family, dedication to community service, unwavering faith, and an ability to bring laughter wherever he went. A man of humor and warmth, Floyd was known for his playful pranks and crazy jokes that could brighten any room and put a smile on your face. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
