Hockley County 4-Hers District bound

Hockley County 4-H had 19 members submit record books to the county contest; 16 are bound for the District competition.

Record-keeping is one of the most valuable life skills taught in the Texas 4-H program. Members are encouraged to keep project records throughout the year and review them annually by completing a Texas 4-H Record Book. The primary purpose of Record Books is to help youth learn how to set goals, work toward them, reflect on their progress, and then set new and higher goals for the future. A secondary benefit is preparing young people for real-world applications such as academic scholarships, college admissions, and even job opportunities.

Record book competitions are evaluated on project growth, leadership, community service and personal reflection. In the Texas 4-H system, record books compete within specific category descriptions such as animal agriculture, plant science or STEM.

For members in Levelland and surrounding areas, judging is an annual summer event where record books are first submitted to the Hockley County 4-H office. Following county evaluation, advancing books proceed to District 2 4-H judging, which takes place in Lubbock.

The 16 4-H members whose record books advanced include: Junior Division – Adeline Gregory, Camerson Johnson, Theresa Albus, Lawrence Albus, Grant Neal, Brylie Albus and Caydee Thomas.

Intermediate Division – Victoria Johnson, Sarah Gray, Tristan Neal, Breallyn Griffith, Kenston Lattimore and Kynlee Thomas.

Senior Division – Kade Gregory, Colt Parkinson and Bradley Gray.
