Jose Barrera of Lubbock, was born December 13, 1944, in Robstown, TX to the late Emilio and Luz Barrera. He married AnaMaria Pompa on February 19, 1966. Jose and AnaMaria were married for 58 years. They resided in Whitharral for 47 years where he worked for Hockley County for 36 years. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Levelland. Jose and Ana moved to Lubbock in 2013 to be closer to family. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hardworking man who loved his family. He loved to travel and do woodwork.
He is survived by his wife AnaMaria Barrera, three daughters; Lora (Mike) Gonzalez, Rebecca Barrera, & Diana (Jeff) Lindsey.. He was blessed with eight grandchildren; Tesla (Taylor) Harkey, Thalia and Dallyn Gonzalez, Hannah (Kolton) Rexrode, Uriah Barrera, Ashton, Helena and Isabella Lindsey. He also had three greatgrandchildren; Elijah and Luna Harkey and Wren Rexrode. He is also survived by his sister Yolanda Boyce and niece Lupe Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his son Jose Barrera Jr., greatgrandchild Anacelia Harkey, parents Emilio and Luz Barrera, sisters Maria Enriquez, Juanita Cipriano, Isabel Guajardo, Odie Jones, Oralia Guajardo, brothers Armando Barrera, Leonel Barrera, Emilio Barrera and Luz Barrera.
Visitation was held from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5 at Guajardo Funeral Chapels, with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Levelland, Texas.
Interment followed at City of Levelland Cemetery.
