This past weeks theme for the Levelland Lobos match up against Lake View was centered around honoring local first responders.
All first responders were encouraged to attend Thursday’s USA themed pep rally along with the football game held at Lobo Stadium on Friday.
Levelland Athletic Director and Head Football Coach explained that this was a way to say thank you to local first responders who go out of their way to protect the community.
“Our first responders do a lot of things for us which allows us to play the game we love, do the things that we love and have the freedoms that we have,” said Coach Leong. “This is just a way to show how much we honor them and it also brings the community together. As a collective group, this is a chance for us all to say thank you.”
During the game, first responders received a complimentary shirt and were treated to food and a great view of the game in the back of the endzone.
“We wanted to give them a great game to watch and provide them with an experience that showed how much we truly appreciated them,” said Coach Leong.
Coach Leong shared his appreciation with those who wanted to lend a helping hand in putting the experience together. Russell Vest with the Hockley County Credit Union handled the cooking while United Supermarkets donated food for the event.
“It has been great seeing the community wanting to be a part of all this,” said Coach Leong. “We had Butches lend a helping hand and some other local companies as well with the shirts we gave our first responders. It has been a group effort by the community as everyone’s pitched in to make this happen and make this work.
During the pep rally on Thursday, first responders in attendance participated in events planned by the LHS Cheer Squad.
“The atmosphere was through the roof during the pep rally and those girls work really hard on putting those together,” explained Coach Leong. “Mrs. V (Laurie Villanueva) works with her squad to get them ready and encourages them to bring their best at all times.”
Up until this point, LHS has had a different theme for each game week.
Next week will be homcoming week for LISD.
