Members of the GFWC Texas Caprock District were welcomed to the District meeting by Caprock District President Tina O’Connor on November 2 in the Founder’s Room at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas.
Sandra Stephenson gave the Thought of the Day. She emphasized that Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs shows Kindness on a huge scale. She reminded the members, “You won’t regret being kind!”
Suzanne Leggit led the Pledge to the US Flag and Brenda Grimes led the Pledge to the Texas Flag. Fredda Schooler gave the Treasure’s Report.
Members present were Carolyn Stephenson, Stephanie Stephens, Fredda Schooler, Suzanne Leggit, Dianne Bridges, Georgia Decker, Sandra Stephenson, Tina O’Connor, and Brenda Grimes.
President O’Connor welcomed and introduced our two guests and speakers from TFWC , Novella Byrd, President Elect and Dr. Kathy Horak Smith, 1st Vice-President.
These two GFWC Texas officers offered Greetings from GFWC Texas State President Barbara Harvey.
Information concerning President Harvey Special Project “Human Trafficking for Sexual Purposes” was distributed to the membership via handouts from Mrs. Byrd. “Hope for Justice” and GFWC share a common mission and vision to live in a world free from trafficking.
It is estimated there 49.6 million victims globally and Texas has 313,000 victim and estimates on the economics of trafficking approximate that commercial sexual exploitation generates $172billion a year and that $64billion is generated by forced labor and domestic servitude.
Mrs. Byrd reminded members of important dates for their calendar: Legislation Day at the Capitol, May 13, 2025; Fall Board Meeting, Austin. September 20-21; GFWC Texas Spring State Convention April 30-May 1, 2025 in Corpus Christi at the OMNI Hotel.
Dr. Kathy Smith encouraged members to be involved and develop friendships with one another.
She encouraged members to ‘Open your Eyes to the world and what is going on in the World.’
An example she gave was the Comptroller for the State of Texas, Sid Miller was a guest speaker at 2024 GFWC Texas Fall Board. He shared all the different hats, duties and programs he is involved in state wide.
President Club Reports were presented from Stephanie Stephens, Phebe K. Warner and Sandra Stephenson, President for Las Fidelis Study Club.
Fredda Schooler reminded members to finish their bidding on the door auction items and then she drew names for the door prizes.
A lunch was prepared and served by the Culinary Dept at South Plains College which consisted of roast beef with potatoes/carrots, chicken with crabmeat sauce, tossed salad, and dessert.
After lunch, members assembled bags of toiletries including combs, shampoos, lotions, wipes and tissues to be presented to Voice of Hope at a later time.
