On Wednesday, a collision between a vehicle and cyclist resulted in one death within Hockley County on FM 300, east of Kelly Road.
A preliminary investigation conducted by DPS (Department of Public Safety) stated Marcus Jay Vargas, 22, of Sundown was traveling west on FM 300 in a 2012 Dodge Ram pickup.
The vehicle was approaching cyclist Darrel Keith, 54, of Levelland from the rear before colliding, According to the report, at the time of the crash, the investigation revealed the sun was starting to set in the west.
Hudson was pronounced deceased on scene as a result of the injuries he sustained during the collision. Vargas was reported to be wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision and no injuries were sustained.
