Funeral services will be on Friday, September 15, at 2p.m. at Krestridge Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the city of Levelland Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland on Thursday, September 14, from 5p.m. to 7p.m at Krestridge Funeral Home.
J. R. Stanley, 94, of Levelland went to be with Jesus on September 10, 2023.
Born to Earl and Roxie Stanley on May 9, 1929, in Hockley County, Texas, he was the fifth child of seven children. When WW11 broke out, his three older brothers joined the armed services and his older sister headed to California to help build ships. So, at the young age of 12, J.R. became an adult taking care of the farm with his younger brother, Harley . Taking over the farm and helping with the livestock instilled the hard work ethic it took to survive and be successful. He took pride in his fields over the years, passing on that hard work legacy to his son, Len.
J.R. believed in being involved . Over the years he was a member of the pettit CO-OP Gin, Plains Cotton Cooperative, Farmers Cooperative Compress, and Plains Cotton Oil Mill. He was on the Pettit School Board for five years, the Levelland school board for 11 years and was Hockley County Commissioner Precinct three for 20 years.
J.R. married Bettye Jo Eskew on June 19, 1948. They lived in Hockley County most of their lives, being devoted to family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years , Bettye Stanley; daughter, Jackie Shugart and husband Edward; SON , Len Stanley and wife Jeannie; sisterin- law, Frances Stanley; grandchildren, Kim (Stacy) Springfield, Aaron Shugart, Rhonda ( Austin) Agnew, Misty (Nathan) Bracken; 15 greatgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Roxie Stanley; granddaughter, Mindy Stanley; grandson , Matt Stanley; brother, Dave, Jack ,Dee, Harley, James; and sister, Wilma Stanley.
