Graveside services held for Wanda Sheppard

WANDA SHEPPARD

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Wanda ‘Sue’ Sheppard stepped into the fullness of God’s peace and joy after faithfully serving Him for 91 years.

Born on June 20, 1934, in Levelland, Texas to E.J. and Helen Heath, Sue was welcomed into her family as the third child. With roots running deep throughout the community, Sue graduated from Levelland High School and stayed close to home to attend Texas Tech University. She took a job working for her aunt and uncle, who owned the candy department inside Hemphill Wells. A perfect role for someone with a sweet tooth the size of Sue’s!

It wasn’t long after, she spotted the love of her life, Kenneth Sheppard, singing in the choir at First Baptist Church Levelland. Not only was Ken able to sing his way into her heart, he became her math tutor and helped her through her classes. Their love blossomed quickly, and the two married on October 23, 1953. By the fall of the 1954, Sue paused her college education to welcome her first child, with two more to follow, and by the end of 1958, the Sheppard family was complete.

Sue was raised in a Christian home, and as a young adult, she committed her life to Jesus, a decision from which she never wavered. She faithfully followed the Lord all her days, and her love for Him overflowed in the way she cared for her family and raised her children. Inspired by their educational pursuits, she returned to college and received an Associates Degree in Business from South Plains College after her children were grown. She worked as the business assistant in the Levelland ISD Business Office for 15 years before retiring. Her later years were full of service, as she spent many years teaching third grade Sunday School, singing in the FBC Levelland SONShine Choir and serving her church family in numerous ways. Sue took great delight and pride in her role as ‘Grandmother’ to nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Her entrance into Heaven came with a grand reunion, as she met her Savior and joined her beloved husband, parents, sister, numerous family members and countless friends. She is survived by her three children: Larry Sheppard (Kristy) of Broken Arrow, OK; Debbie Moore (Robert) of Sweetwater, TX; Kenda Hurst (Britt) of Lubbock, TX. Nine grandchildren: Kenlee Blake Hurst (Lacye), Nathan Sheppard, Joshua Sheppard (Jessica), Lauren Moore Greenfield (Chad), Brittnye Hurst Davis (Aaron), Johanna Sheppard Banuelos (Brian), Meghan Moore McCarty (Joseph), Jeremiah Sheppard (Kea), Timothy Moore (Alexis). Fourteen great-grandchildren: Graham and Grace Greenfield; Annabeth and Madelyn Davis; Nora, Abigail, and Emma McCarty; Audrey and Jax Hurst; Avery and Oliver Sheppard; Luca and Arlo Banuelos and Trooper Moore. Two brothers: James Health and Gerald Heath (Vicky).

Visitation was held on Friday, May 15 from 5:007:00 p.m. at Krestridge Funeral Home in Levelland.

Friends joined the family at the memorial service on Saturday, May 16 at 2:00PM at First Baptist Church Levelland. A graveside service followed at the Levelland Cemetery.

Services with integrity, pride, and honor are under the direction of Krestridge Funeral Home. (806) 8971111.
