Linda Kay Roberts, 83, of McKinney, Tx died Sunday, October 1, 2023, after fighting a lengthy illness with all her might. She was born in Hobbs, New Mexico, February 1, 1941, a daughter of the late Glen Leatherman and Pauline (Liles) Leatherman. Linda moved to Levelland, Tx when she was 5 years old. When she was sixteen, she met the love of her life, Donnie Ray Roberts. Just a few months after high school graduation they married on September 12, 1959, and had their first child a year later, Ricky Don Roberts. Their daughter, Shelley Lynae Roberts, was born four years later.
While raising their children and working, they also attended Texas Tech University. She received her Bachelor of Education and started her teaching career at Levelland Junior High. Linda had a love for music and was offered a voice scholarship to North Texas but wanted to be a Red Raider. Don and Linda played music together in a band called The Branded Four. They entertained many people throughout the years.
Linda also had a love for traveling and spent many years traveling across the U.S. with Don in their motor coach where they met some of their best friends. She always had an undying love for her family and her Texas Tech Red Raiders. She was the “glue” of the family, and her strength was something to be admired.
She is survived by her son, Rick Roberts and his wife Kerry Roberts; her daughter, Shelley Lanford and her husband Mike Lanford; five grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Lauren, LaShey, and Jackson; three greatgrandchildren, Lexi, Sutton, and Lucy; and her sister-in-law, Betty Roberts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donnie Roberts and a brother, Ronnie Leatherman.
Linda will be missed but has left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
A graveside service for family only will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at City of Levelland Cemetery, with Pastor Phil McClendon officiating.
