Larry Oscar Tapp, 81, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025. He was born on January 16, 1944, in Lubbock, Texas to Oscar Malcolm Tapp and Alma Lou Tapp.

Raised in the Southern Baptist tradition, the hymns and teachings of his childhood faith remained an important part of who he was throughout his life. Larry grew up in Lubbock, Texas where he graduated from Monterey High School in 1962. He continued his education at Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Banking and Finance.

In 1967, Larry married the love of his life, Sharon Ann Cook Tapp, in Fort Worth. They shared 58 beautiful years together in a marriage filled with love and devotion. The couple raised their family in Levelland, Texas, where Larry proudly served on the City Council, demonstrating his commitment to public service and community development. Larry was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and always cherished the hymns from his Southern Baptist upbringing. He found great joy in playing golf, participating in his bowling league, spending time with his beloved family, and his cherished dog, Hazie.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sharon, of Dallas, Texas; his daughters, Brandi Tapp Sutton (David) and Ashli Tapp Clements of Dallas, Texas; his two beautiful grandchildren, Sheldon and Lawsyn Clements of Dallas, Texas; his big brother David Lynn Tapp (Cleo) of Sunrise Beach, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Alma Tapp, and his brothers Delton, Donald, Kenneth, and Jim.

Larry will be remembered always for his gentle spirit, kind heart, and steadfast devotion to his family. With a wonderful sense of humor and a deep love for laughter, he brought joy to everyone around him. Larry had a rare gift for making others feel welcome—he truly never met a stranger. His legacy of love, warmth, and friendship will live on, inspiring all who were fortunate to know him for generations to come.

Memorial services were held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, TX 75220, in Shipp Chapel on Wednesday, June 11th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Doodle Rock Rescue via Venmo (@doodlerockrescue, last four digits of their phone number are 1011) or to the charity of their choice.
