Armando G. Garza passed away peacefully on April 6, at the age of 77, surrounded by family. He was born January 12, 1947 in Edcouch, Texas to Eustolio and Lasara Garza.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Lucelia “Lucy” Garza, son Armando Garza Jr (Rachel), and daughters Glenda Perez (David) and Edna Grear (Charles), grandchildren David Christopher Perez (Sabrina), Lauren Lindner (Jake), Haley Martinez, Jessica Lowe (Keith), Amber Pera (Collin) and Jackson Grear, and great-granddaughter Madison Perez. He is also survived by his sister Idalia Garza as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Armando married Lucy Rivera on March 26, 1966 in Edcouch, Texas and later moved to Whitharral, Texas in 1970.
He worked at the local United Cotton Growers’ gin and was promoted to gin superintendent. He would later retire after 40 years of doing a job he loved.
Upon retirement, Armando and Lucy moved to New Braunfels to be closer to family and enjoy a warmer climate. However, he could not stay retired for long and quickly accepted several cotton gin positions as each cotton season came around. His last employer was Whataburger where he worked any shift he was asked to work and quickly earned Employee of the Month after three short months. Armando loved to work hard, laugh, and make other people laugh. He always had a good story to tell, wanted everyone to have a meal and enjoyed cold beer. He enjoyed fishing, being outdoors and being with family. He always wanted to help people and was everyone’s cheerleader. He found great joy in the success of his family and was often in the stands or on the sidelines, cheering for them. Armando often wore a baseball cap and over the years he collected a cap from each college attended by his children and grandchildren. If you came for a visit, he was sure to wear your college cap as his way of letting you know that he was proud of you.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on April 22, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Braunfels.
