Memorial services held for Samuel De La Rosa, 65
Samuel De La Rosa of Levelland, formally of Enochs and Whiteface, 65, passed from this life on March 22, in Dallas.
Funeral service was held on Tuesday March 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s CatholicChurch in Levelland.
Officiating was Deacon Jesse Moreno. Music was by Joe Flores. Interment will be announced at a later date.
Visitations and reflections of life were on Sunday March 24, from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Monday March 25, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. at the Head Duarte Funeral Home chapel in Levelland.
Rosary was held on Monday March 25, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel in Levelland.
Pallbearers were Timothy Hinojosa, Nathan Hinojosa, Krystal Guerrero, Aly Guerrero, Ricky Morin, and Joe Honesto Jr. Honorary Pallbearers were Brianna Garza, Alex Garza and Amanda Garza.
Samuel was born to Fidel and Theodola Ornelas De La Rosa on September 29, 1958 in Pecos.
Sammy graduated from Three Way High School in Maple in 1977. He married Janie Bertha Garza on April 19, 1980 in Levelland and they had two sons from this union. They moved from Petit to Whiteface and then to Levelland. Sam was a DOT inspector for several years and worked for a variety of oil field companies. He was in Who’s Who, and his hobbies were playing basketball, hunting, paint and body shop, refurbishing classic cars and trucks, reading, barbecuing out doors for his family, he and his wife Janie, would cook authentic Mexican cuisine dishes and delicious homemade desserts and pastries from scratch . Sammy liked being a couch potato, and enjoyed watching western movies, SciFi , Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and all sports. A long time member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Morton and St. Michael’s Catholic Church of Levelland.
He was preceded in death by his parent Fidel and Theodola De La Rosa; one son, Daniel Lee De La Rosa; brothers, Robert, David, Johnny and Benjamin De La Rosa.
Survivors are spouse of 43 years: Janie Bertha De La Rosa of Levelland; son Michael James (Stephanie) De La Rosa of Levelland; sisters Oralia (Raul) Munoz of Hagerman, New Mexico and Virginia (Joe Felix), Honesto of Greeley, Colo. and a host of nieces and nephews Under the professional care of Head Duarte Funeral Home and staff of Levelland.
