Eagles finish third at Caprock Classic

The Ropes Eagles basketball team competed in four games at the Caprock Classic in Lubbock this past Monday through Wednesday, going 3-1 to finish third in the Double T Smiles Boys Bracket.

The Eagles kicked off tournament play with an 8239 win over Abilene Christian, led by Kade Franklin with 21 points and Cutter Stumbo with 20 points.

Other scorers for the Eagles included Kaden Riker with 12 points, Malikai Mendez with 11 points, Cason Kucel with seven points, Kolter Dockery and Mike Williams both with four points, and Daxton Garner with three points.

In their second game, the Eagles took care of business again, beating Dalhart 57-39. The Eagles trailed by five after the first quarter, but they’d respond by outscoring Dalhart 47-24 in the rest of the game.

Scorers for the Eagles against Dalhart included Stumbo with 21 points, Franklin with 18 points, Branson Simental with 10 points, Riker with five points, Bryce Hiler with two points and Mendez with one point.

In their third game, Ropes fell to Slaton, 63-56. The Eagles got down by 15 at one point and could never fully close the gap.

Scorers for the Eagles against Slaton included Franklin with 27 points, Stumbo with 14 points, Simental with five points, Riker with four points, and Mendez, Kucel and Dockery all with two points.

In their last tournament matchup, the Eagles took down Wink, 73-43, to earn third place in the 2025 Caprock Classic.
