The Ropes Lady Eagles traveled on the road for a matchup against the Lockney Lady Longhorns this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Lady Eagles losing a nailbiter across eight innings, 11-10.
Ropes came out strong, outscoring Lockney 4-0 in the first inning, and Lockney responded by outscoring them 8-2 in the second inning. Ropes would score two unanswered runs in the third through fifth innings, then the teams each added a run in the sixth inning. Lockney would ultimately secure the win by outscoring Ropes 3-1 in the eighth inning.
In the team statistics, the Lady Eagles bested the Lady Steers 17-13 in hits, while the two teams tied 6-6 in walks and 1-1 in errors committed.
“I liked how our girls kept fighting, stayed in it, and gave us a chance the whole way,” Ropes Head Softball Coach Joey Ybarra said. “In a close game like this, it really just comes down to a couple plays, and we’ll learn from it.”
That fight showed in the Lady Eagles performances at the plate as standouts included Braedyn Reyna going 4/5 with three runs-battedin, two runs scored, two doubles, two stolen bases and a home run, right fielder Laila Mireles going 3/5 with two RBI’s, a double, a walk and a stolen base, third baseman Kambry Turner going 1/3 with two RBI’s, a double, a walk and a stolen base, and left fielder Sydney Brooks going 2/5 with two stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.
Others included first baseman Camden Dodd going 3/3 with two runs scored, two walks and two stolen bases, catcher Ezmeralda Saenz going 2/4 with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base, and shortstop Marlee Molina going 1/3 with two runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.
Reyna pitched two frames, surrendering eight earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters. Reyna was followed by Molina who pitched 5.1 innings, surrendering four earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters, and Brooklyn Hogg made an appearance as well.
The loss drops Ropes to 13-12 overall this season. They return to play over the weekend against Petersburg before playing at Lubbock Christian on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Those mark two of the Lady Eagles final three games this season.
