This past Tuesday night, the Levelland Loboettes and Lobos basketball teams traveled to take on each respective San Angelo Lakeview team, with the Loboettes winning 64-33, and the Lobos losing 60-48.
In the Loboettes win over the Lakeview Maidens, the difference was the turnover margin, which they won by 22. As a team, the Loboettes shot 38% from the field and 23% from three, while the Maidens shot 37% from the field and 43% from three, but the Loboettes would make 11 more total shots and five more three-pointers than them.
Scorers for the Loboettes included Presley Smith and Brook’lyn Cornish both with 19 points and three threepointers made, London Branch with seven points, Trinity Wafer with five points, Sydnii Joyce with four points, Jill Lopez with three points, and Brooklyn Escobar, Zanity Sanchez and Destynii Jones all with two points.
The win improves the Loboettes to 22-6 overall and 5-2 in district play, which places them third in the 4A District 5 standings.
In the Lobos loss against the Chiefs, the difference was the shooting percentages and turnover margin, as the Lakeview outshot the Lobos 46% to 37% from the field and won the turnover margin by seven. They would also make eight more total shots than the Lobos and outrebound them 33-28.
Scorers for the Lobos included Bentley Sepulbeda with 13 points, Anthony Gonzales and Graham Gibbs both with 10 points, Ethan Salazar with six points, Nehemiah Sanchez with three points, and Bryson Golightly, Zavien Longoria and Kane Rice all with two points.
The loss drops the Lobos to 16-9 overall and 2-3 in district play, which puts them in a three-way tie for third with Lakeview and Frenship Memorial in the 4A District 5 standings.
Following Tuesday’s games, both teams will be back in action for district matchups over the weekend at home against Lubbock Cooper Liberty before returning on Tuesday on the road against Snyder. The girl’s game against Snyder is at 6:15 p.m. and the boy’s game is at 7:30 p.m.
