Ropes boys claim 2A District 5 crown

    The 2A District 5 Boys Track & Field Championships took place this past Thursday and Friday at Sundown High School, resulting in the Ropes Eagles securing the team title and countless individuals from Sundown, Smyer, Ropes, Whiteface and Morton qualifying for area, as in every event, the top four finishers advanced to the Area Championships.

    In the 4x100-meter relay, Ropes won the District Championship with a time of 43.57, Sundown placed third with a time of 45.48 and Smyer placed fourth with a time of 47.00.

    In the 800-meter run, Austin Martinez (Smyer) placed runner-up with a time of 2:04.23.

    In the 110-meter hurdles, Cesar Chavez (Whiteface) was the District Champion with a time of 15.04, Nathan McAdams (Sundown) was the runner-up with a time of 15.43, Stetson Haden (Ropes) placed third with a time of 17.28 and Rylan Poage (Whiteface) placed fourth with a time of 18.29.

    In the 100-meter dash, Kolter Dockery (Ropes) was the District Champion with a time of 10.74, Ryan Pope (Sundown) was the runnerup with a time of 11.24, Max Benevedes (Smyer) placed third with a time of 11.28 and Isaiah Acosta (Ropes) placed fourth with a time of 11.38.

    In the 4x200-meter relay, Ropes won the District Championship with a time of 1:31.15; Sundown placed third with a time of 1:34.96 and Whiteface placed fourth with a time of 1:38.92.

    In the 400-meter dash, Jaydith Shelton (Sundown) was the District Champion with a time of 52.37; Branson Simental (Ropes) placed third with a time of 54.02 and Lincoln Keesler (Sundown) placed fourth with a time of 54.47.

    In the 300-meter hurdles, Isaak Soliz (Whiteface) was the District Champion with a time of 39.19, Nathan Mc-Adams was the runner-up with a time of 42.02, Ivaniel Gandara (Whiteface) placed third with a time of 43.82 and Cesar Chavez (Whiteface) placed fourth with a time of 43.83.

    In the 200-meter dash, Maddux Sierra (Ropes) was the District Champion with a time of 23.36, Isaiah Acosta was the runner-up with a time of 23.84, Josh Hogan (Sundown) placed third with a time of 24.09 and Brayden Villarreal (Morton) placed fourth with a time of 24.48.

    In the 1,600-meter run, Austin Martinez placed runner- up with a time of 4:47.04 and Rolando Rivera (Sundown) placed fourth with a time of 5:09.90.

    In the 3,200-meter run, Chase Schumm (Ropes) placed third with a time of 11:27.98 and Samuel Chavez (Morton) placed fourth with a time of 11:42.16.

    In the 4x400-meter relay, Ropes placed third with a time of 3:36.95 and Whiteface placed fourth with a time of 3:38.18.

    In the high jump, Isaak Soliz was the District Champion with a jump of 6’-04”, Ryan Pope placed third with a jump of 5’-6” and Rylan Poage placed fourth with a time of 5’-4”.

    In the pole vault, Mike Williams (Ropes) was the District Champion with a vault of 12’-6”, James Rampy (Smyer) was the runner- up with a vault of 12’0”, Cooper Day (Sundown) placed third with a vault of 11’-6” and Zayden Pittman (Ropes) placed fourth with a vault of 11’-6”.

    In the long jump, Ryan Pope was the District Champion with a jump of 20’-8”, Brayden Villarreal was the runner-up with a jump of 20’7”, Michael Gutierrez (Smyer) placed third with a jump of 19’-4.75” and Isaiah Acosta placed fourth with a jump of 19’-2.50”.

    In the triple jump, Jose Aleman (Sundown) was the District Champion with a jump of 39’-0.5”, Ryder Bufe (Sundown) was the runnerup with a jump of 37’-9”, Skyler Pond (Smyer) placed third with a jump of 37’-2” and Mike Williams placed fourth with a jump of 36’-8”. In the discus, Kaden Riker (Ropes) was the District Champion with a throw of 157’-1” and Jaivyth Cruz (Ropes) placed fourth with a throw of 122’-1”.

    In the shot put, Victor Saenz (Ropes) was the District Champion with a throw of 48’-5.75” and Tyler Harbuck (Ropes) placed third with a throw of 41’-9”.

    In the team standings, Ropes scored 165 total points to secure the District Championship, Sundown scored 127 total points to finish second, Whiteface scored 75 total points to finish fourth, Smyer scored 60 total points to finish sixth and Morton scored 19 total points to finish seventh.

    Every qualifier is set to compete at the Area Championships this Friday at Sundown High School.
