Roughettes beat Brownfield in playoff warmup, 11-5

The Sundown Roughettes hosted the Brownfield Lady Cubs for a non-district softball matchup this past Monday night, which served as a playoff warmup for the Roughettes. They’d prove to be more than ready with an 11-5 win across seven innings.

Sundown got on the board first with two runs in the first inning; Brownfield responded with three runs in the second inning, Sundown added three in the third inning, and then Brownfield won the fourth inning 2-1. The Roughettes would end the back-and-forth with five unanswered runs to close out the game and the win.

In the team statistics, the Roughettes bested the Lady Cubs 16-9 in hits and 2-0 in walks, and the Lady Cubs bested them 0-1 in errors committed.

Standouts at the plate for Sundown included catcher Brynly Gregory going 2/2 with four runs-batted-in and a run scored, center fielder Camry Jourden going ¾ with two runs scored, an RBI, a triple and a double, third baseman Breigh Gregory going 3/3 with three runs scored and an RBI, left fielder Avy McGlasson going 1/3 with two RBIs, a run scored and a double, second baseman Nayleen Morin going 2/4 with an RBI and a double, first baseman Araceli Ibarra going 2/4 with an RBI and a run scored, and shortstop Emry Jourden going 2/3 with three runs scored and a double.

On the mound for the Roughettes, Breigh Gregory pitched two innings, surrendering zero runs on one hit and no walks while striking out two batters. Destiny Garza would also take the mound, pitching five innings, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out three batters. Garza would be the winning pitcher.

The win improves the Roughettes to 21-3 overall.

They return to action over the weekend for a best of three playoff series against their first-round opponent, the Sudan Nettes.
