The Sundown Roughettes went on the road for a district softball matchup against the New Home Lady Leopards this past Tuesday night, resulting in the Roughettes run ruling them 17-0 across three innings.
The Roughettes took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and a 7-0 lead in the second inning before adding 10 runs in the third inning to secure the victory.
That high caliber offensive showing was powered by several great performances at the plate including Breigh Gregory going 2/2 with four runs-batted-in, three runs scored and two walks, catcher Brynly Gregory going 1/2 with three RBI’s, a run scored and a walk, first baseman Araceli Ibarra going 3/3 with three runs scored, two RBI’s and a double, and shortstop Emry Jourden going ¾ with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.
Other Roughette standouts included second baseman Nayleen Morin going ½ with an RBI, a walk and a run scored, third baseman Destiny Garza going ¼ with two runs scored, an RBI and a double, Miranda Posadas going ½ with two runs scored, an RBI, a double and a walk, and right fielder Jaelyn Dominguez going 2/3 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Breigh Gregory backed up that high-scoring ef- fort with a stifling effort on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings, holding New Home to zero runs, zero walks and one hit while striking out three batters.
The win improves the Roughettes to 14-3 overall and 4-0 in district play, which puts them first in the 2A District 5 softball standings.
They return to action over the weekend against Post before hosting Seagraves on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
