Sandlin, Igo win Sands Invitational

The Sundown Roughnecks and Roughettes golf teams both competed in the Sands Invitational at the Rockwind Golf Course in Hobbs, New Mexico, this past Monday, and they came away with two individual champions that powered both teams’ runner-up finishes.

On the girls’ side, Jayden Sandlin shot an 87 to place first, Maddy Medrano shot a 112 to place 10th, Bethany Honesto shot a 123 to place 21st and Addilyn Hord shot a 136 to place 33rd. The Roughettes ended with a team score of 458 to finish second overall.

On the boys’ side, Isaiah Igo shot a 67 to place first, Drew Igo shot a 77 to place third, Brock Bufe shot a 90 to place 18th, Landry Farrar shot a 103 to place 49th and Axel Garcia shot a 105 to place 51st. The Roughnecks ended with a team score of 337 to finish second overall. “That was our last tune up before district play,” Sundown Head Golf Coach Kyle Igo said. “Our kids competed well on a tough golf course. We’re ready to work and improve a few things moving towards District, Regionals and State.”

They’ll kick off their postseason schedule on Monday for the District Golf Tournament at the Reese Golf Center in Lubbock.
