Levelland Breakfast Rotary Club, 806 Cornhole hosts cornhole tournament

The Levelland Breakfast Rotary Club and 806 Cornhole will host a Cornhole Tournament Aug. 10 to raise funds to aid residents of Kerr County, Texas, following the devastating floods over the July 4th weekend.

The tournament will be held at the St. Michael Catholic Church Parish Hall beginning at 1 p.m. and is open to all beginners and experienced players. Entry fee is $20 per individual and registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

“We are hosting this fundraising event with the goal of raising critical funds and awareness for ongoing disaster relief in Kerrville caused by the recent floods,” said Anthony Castellano with 806 Cornhole, the tournament organizer. “Considering the challenges faced by those impacted, financial assistance has emerged as one of the most urgent needs to secure shelter, clothing and other daily necessities.”

All proceeds from the event will go towards the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund with the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. Herrera’s Tex-Mex BBQ will also be on site to provide food with proceeds supporting the fund.

“The Breakfast Rotary Club is excited to support this effort to help provide disaster relief to the residents of Kerr County,” said Albert Garcia, Breakfast Rotary Club president. “This will be a single competitor tournament, and we welcome all cornhole enthusiasts who want to help out to come participate.”

Garcia and Castellano also expressed their gratitude to St. Michael Catholic Church and Rev. Jonathan Phillips for providing access to the hall. “We appreciate the support we have received from Father Jonathan and others at St. Michael’s,” said Castellano. “We believe this will be a successful fundraiser for the Flood Relief Fund.” Castellano said that there are already 20 competitors who have committed to the tournament. Levels of play will include social (beginner) and open (experienced) divisions. Registration can also be made on the Scoreholio app. Tournament plaques will be presented to the winners.

Herrera’s Tex-Mex BBQ will be selling pulled pork sandwiches and hamburgers for $6 each. A plate that included a sandwich, chips, drink and cookie will be available for $10.

“If you don’t want to play cornhole,” said Garcia, “then we invite you to come out and purchase food.” Serving starts at 11 a.m. and carry out plates will be available. St. Michael Parish Hall is located at 314 E. Washington.
